Sample Written Assignments | University of Technology Sydney

By ntvliJuly 4, in University of Toronto Medical School. The answers are within yourself. Just start writing trying to answer and then edit, edit, edit. You can do it! Samples and books are the first step to be unsuccessful in my opinion. Its unique. u of t med school essay examples should be a reflection of yourself and your values.

Please do not try to copy it from somewhere because:. There are thousands of applicants. Do you really want to take the risk that NO ONE else is thinking the same thing? I agree with all of the above. I wrote them with no preparation at all, and then had my wife and myself edit it several times for grammer, style, fluff, etc. There is no way any book or other source will be able to tell you what to write unless you truly have no experiences to draw upon very unlikely, u of t med school essay examples.

Only thing you need to do is read the instructions carefully and perhaps read over U of T's philosophy, canMED roles, etc to see how you can use your experiences to exhibit them. Follow the above advice; you don't need outside help for the initial draft. If you do, then I'm worried that you'll have a tough time during the interview where you may have to answer similar questions on-the-spot without the help of props and books. They're not looking for fancy grammar and prose with your answers.

Instead, they want to assess your critical thinking skills and learn a bit more about you and your motivations for going into med school. They want answers that: 1 actually answer the question asked - i. This is just what I've done in the past and what I'd do if I were you answering these Qs this year.

Be creative and get your critical thinking cap on! I think it's important to understand the purpose of the essays - they're not testing your writing ability; they're u of t med school essay examples you a chance to speak about yourself and your experiences at greater length than you get anywhere else on the application.

Copying or even emulating other people's essays would probably get in the way of that. On my essays, I got straight to the point again, this isn't your typical cookie cutter three-paragraph essay like they taught in high school, so don't get too caught up with a long-winded introduction or anything and made sure to make them as personal as possible - I was accepted, so I think that was a good way to go about it.

I should also note that at my interview, we spent most of our time talking about things that came up in my essays. I felt like the essays really gave my interviewers a chance to get to know me and they were very interested in hearing more about the experiences I had written about. So, if you're considering copying anyone else's essays, there's another reason that would be a bad idea: you'll need to be able to have a conversation about what you wrote, and if you can't, that probably won't come off very well.

This was very true for me, too. These essays really helped develop my ability to articulate my motivations for going into medicine, which I think was really useful in all of my interviews.

Plus it was really fun and interesting to go back and examine the experiences I wrote about in more detail than I probably would have otherwise. Agreed on yourself and a friend or two being more than enough, too. Honestly I feel like using prep books, templates, or any other source other than your own memories for the essays would be harmful to your application overall - the whole point of these things is to stand out and be yourself.

I feel like going through the process of answering those questions helped me examine my motivations for entering medicine more concretely. Up until then, I had lots of strong but abstract reasons for applying, and I wouldn't have been able to verbalize those reasons as well during my interview if I hadn't gone through the essay writing process.
